Creating SAS/GRAPH plots for insertion into Word
SAS/GRAPH plots can often look messy when compared to outputs created in Excel for example. By using hardware fonts, and the EMF file format, the outputs can be improved...
Hints for improving SAS/GRAPH outputs
Use hardware fonts, for example the GIF, PNG and EMF file formats allow this on Windows systems.
Create vector-based files if you need to resize images within another application (eg. Word). Recommended output format is EMF (Enhanced Meta Files).
Use a hardware font for plot symbols, for example Wingdings. The symbols will be scalable, and thus retain their shape rather than turning from a circle into a messy blob when scaled up!
For example,
symbol1 value=wingding-symbol font='Wingdings';
Recommended SAS log analyser for SAS users:
Take a look at Elvis SAS log analyser. It takes a SAS log, either from the clipboard or from a saved file, and allows you to view it, navigate around it, search it and more. This makes working with large SAS logs much, much easier and faster than simply looking at the log in a non-specialised viewer such as a plain text editor, Internet Explorer or Notepad.
